Moor Rigg Barn is the unpainted end cottage of three.
It is located in the vale of Grisedale, two miles from the A684 at Garsdale Head. It is 8.5 miles from the Wendsleydale town of Hawes and 10 miles from Sedbergh in Cumbria.
The M6 at Junction 37 is 15 miles away and Kendal in the Lake District just 22 miles and less than 45mins away.
The Howgill Fells are rounded grass-covered hills referred to as 'Sleeping Elephants' by the renowned walker and writer Alfred Wainwright. The Howgills offer the visitor a little piece of wilderness, grazed by sheep and semi-feral ponies. They are separated from the Lake District to the west by the River Lune and from the Yorkshire Dales in the east by the Dent fault and are characterised by a general lack of walls and fences.
Sedbergh is nestled at the southern foot of the Howgill Fells. It is home to Sedbergh School, one of the UK’s premier boarding schools with a high reputation for producing top-flight sports stars but it’s also England’s Book Town. You will find knowledgeable traders selling a whole range of books from first editions to modern classics.
It has great shopping too. Powell’s greengrocers in Main Street also sell deli goods including a great range of cheeses, fruit juices, cakes and other epicurean delicacies.
Sleepy Elephant sells a wide and diverse range of Moroccan textiles, walking boots, outdoor clothes and not to say it’s original fare of books and maps.
